چکیده

Victorian lignites (brown coals) in Australia have long been the mainstay of the Victorian economy, providing low-cost electricity to the state. In order to secure energy supplies for the future and to reduce the environmental impacts of power generation using the lignites, the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Clean Power from Lignite is developing an Advanced Pressurized Fluidized-Bed Combustion (APFBC) technology for power generation from the lignites. In the APFBC system, the lignite will be firstly dried. The dried lignite will then be pyrolyzed and partially gasified before the resulting char is burned in a pressurized fluidized-bed combustor. Simulation studies carried out in the CRC show that the APFBC system using the lignites could achieve an efficiency of more than 44 percent, approaching that of a similar system using bituminous coals. This would represent more than a 33 percent reduction of CO2 emissions in comparison with the current pulverized-fuel combustion systems.

Organic emissions from coal pyrolysis: mutagenic effects.

Four different types of coal have been pyrolyzed in a laminar flow, drop tube furnace in order to establish a relationship between polycyclic aromatic compound (PAC) evolution and mutagenicity. Temperatures of 900K to 1700K and particle residence times up to 0.3 sec were chosen to best simulate conditions of rapid rate pyrolysis in pulverized (44-53 microns) coal combustion. The specific mutage...

Study on Pyrolysis of Carbonaceous Additives in Green Sand Foundries

This research evaluated the hydrocarbon emission characteristics during pyrolysis of four carbonaceous additives that can be used in green sand foundries. These included a highly volatile bituminous coal, anthracite, lignite and cellulose. The samples were flash pyrolyzed in a Curie-point pyrolyzer at 920 C with a heating rate of about 3000 C/sec. This simulated the fast heating conditions that...

Emissions and Furnace Gas Temperature for Electricity Generation via Co-firing of Coal and Biomass

The emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen and sulphur oxides for electricity generation with coal and biomass co-firing are investigated and the furnace gas temperature assessed. The study uses simulation and considers fuel combinations based on two coals (bituminous coal, lignite) and four types of biomass (rice husk, sawdust, chicken litter, refused derived fuel). With increasing biomass, ...

Survival of Rhizobium phaseoli in Coal-Based Legume Inoculants.

The long-term survival of Rhizobium phaseoli strains 127K17, 127K26, and 127K35 in legume inoculants prepared with eight different coals (one strain and one coal per inoculant) was studied. The coals used were Pennsylvania anthracite, bituminous coals from Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Utah, lignite from North Dakota and Texas, and subbituminous coals from New Mexico and Wyoming; they ranged in p...

Washed Coal from a Utilization Perspective03.PDF

One day in my life concerning coal quality has struck me more than most. We asked a group of utility and power plant people what properties of coal they liked and what caused them concern. As each person provided their response you could see that each had their own view. Some wanted dustless coal, others coal that has good flow through chutes. Many wanted large, lumpy coals, the engineers wante...
